Give me some SPACE!
We took to heart the words of advice we received while on tour with the Sketchbook Project in Portland, Maine last March — you HAVE to come back in the summertime!
Since we were last at SPACE Gallery, the crew had opened up a completely new addition where we would be showing. The walls were covered in posters from past exhibitions, screenings, and performances that had traveled to show at the gallery, which perfectly complemented our collection of books that had also taken quite a journey to get there. The main room had an installation by Milan based artist/designer duo Carnovsky who created wallpaper that transformed to show different images depending on the color of light being shone on it — so cool!

The crew enjoyed being seaside and took in the local flavors alongside the vacationers ‘summering’ in Maine. Naomi had her first ever lobster roll, while Jessica discovered that Portland might be the worst place on earth to have a lobster allergy. We were able to stay at an apartment in neighborhood within walking distance from the gallery, which was a welcome change from normal life on the road!

Naomi was so excited to revisit some of her favorite places that she remembered from last year’s tour, including the homemade kombucha and baked goods at Local Sprout, where we ate at multiple times during our stay.
We had a great turnout at the shows, including a really fun opening night. We were one checkout away from having 1500 books viewed during the three days at SPACE Gallery. Thanks for the fun - now we’re off to Toronto!
